was one of those very few players who seemed like they looked at a lot of pitches. Very rare to see someone who routinely was at the top of the league in both strikeouts and walks.

Lange was definitely a great player when he played. Quick, great eye, a good offensive player. However, he only played 7 seasons so that probably disqualifies him alone (I'm not sure if pre-1900 players have a different set of rules).

Piano Legs Gore was also a very good player -- not one of the best ever, but definitely a memorable All-Star, long-career type.
