Although no population numbers are mentioned, Pete Calderon's Caramel Card site offers a great chart on his opinion on the scarcity of the various E90 to E107 issues. Having been a collector for many years, his listing of relative scarcity within these issues coincided very closely with my ideas too, so I feel he has a good feel for the subject.
