I wish people would get this "A holder automatically makes the card worth more" notion out of their heads. Not ALL times will a slabbed card be worth than an ungraded copy.
Right now, I can't see a dealer paying $14k for that card unless they thought it would have a good shot to 9 (as the market for that card in an 8 has dropped significantly). Even if you kept it in a PSA 8 - you would still be taking a bath, so I'm not sure I would be quick to blame it on the "crack", but rather, on the unforgiving market.
