Then again Belichick had the wisdom and courage to keep Brady as the starter after Bledsoe (a star QB in his own right) was available again. At the time this was very controversial and went against the conventional wisdom that a starting QB could not lose his job to an injury.
The Patriots went 11-5 in 2008 with Brady out the entire season.
