Phil Wood likes to tell the story of an early show he promoted in Northern Virginia in 1979 where Joltin' Joe was the guest. People kept coming up to Phil complaining that they had to pay for his autograph. Phil said DiMaggio spent most of the time on the stage by himself, and Phil would go up and chat with him because he felt sorry that Joe looked so forlorn. The fee for his signature was $7.50, I believe, and with that you would get virtually unlimited time with the legend!
