This is a somewhat controversial topic. I started a thread about these at least a decade ago. I picked up six colorized 1940 Play Balls, and actually had one graded by SGC, which has graded several others as well. I have another that turned up on eBay. A friend of mine who sometimes posts here had a colorized 1939 Play Ball of Pinky May. He sold it in an auction at my suggestion, and he was pleased by the price he received. As for the legitimacy of these, my chief argument is, at least on the 1940 Play Balls, that an artist couldn't have painted such detail at that scale. The artwork is too precise.
