Hello Brian. Jay is spot on, the Brouthers proofs date to 1887 and are found on Gray Studio mounts (just like most of the other 1887 teams).

In early 1888 the glass plate negative was marked with name, position, and team (DETROITS). Some time after Brouthers signed with Boston (Oct 16, 1888), the Goodwin negatives were updated to Boston (likely happened early 1889).
The albumen print is likely from 1889 but not sure how it ended up on Conly mount. It is possible that Conly made Old Judge cards and cabinets for Goodwin but havent seen other examples of on Conly mounts.
Might study print and mount a little closer to see if damage and markings match such as the crease at upper left.
It is a nice image of Brouthers, could be interesting insight into who made the 1889 N172s and N173s.
