The Mets and Astros had some battles...I was on hand for the 1986 playoffs.
The Gooden-Ryan matchup in that series was one of the best pitching performances I ever got to see. Gooden gave up only 1 run i 10 innings while Ryan also only gave up one run and struck out 12 in nine innings.

That's why that date jumped out to me - that game has been a good seller over the years, and Dierker was a good friend of Johns, even visiting him at home. I've been selling John's CDs, with his approval, for 25 years now. Andy Holden (Baseball Direct) is the only other authorized seller of John's material.
