I never knew the story behind the painting until I googled it a few minutes ago, Cubs manager Charlie Grimm and Cubs players Bob Rush, Johnny Schmitz, and Rube Walker agreed to pose for the original photo and the batboy was actually a Boston Braves batboy who agreed to put on a Cubs uniform for the shoot.
