low grade 1929 Zeenut Hollywood Stars PCL Johnny Bassler slight paper loss on front creases as pictured. Johnny had a great Big League Career 1913 and 1914 with the Cleveland Naps, then 1921-1927 with the Detroit Tigers. Career batting average .304 with 2319 AB and 1 home run.
After retiring from baseball, and during the offseason during his years in baseball, Bassler spent much of his time hooking rugs. Bassler would take old silk stockings and dye them in pots on the stove. He would then cut them in strips and hook them into silk rugs. *His youngest child, James Bassler, became a renowned weaver and fiber artist and a professor at the UCLA School of Arts and Architecture.
Bassler bought 48 acres in Latigo Canyon in Malibu for $75 an acre.
