René Monteagudo
René Monteagudo Miranda was born on March 12, 1916 in La Habana and died on Sepetember 14, 1973 in Hialeah, Florida. He pitched and played the Outfield. He started his baseball career with the Central Algodones semi-pro team. He then played for the 1935-36 Santa Clara squad in the Cuban Winter League. He would play 13 seasons in the Cuban leagues with his last being the 1949-50 with Almendares. He also played with the Havana Cubans of the Florida Int'l League. We was one of the first players signed by Washington Senators scout Joe Cambria. He first appeared in the United States with 1938 Trenton Senators and was quickly promoted to the Washington Senators. He would again appear with the Senators in 1940 and 1944. In 1945 he was traded to the Phillies. He played 9 seasons in the Minor Leagues and 4 seasons in the Mexican League. His son Aurelio pitched 7 years in the Majors and had a long career in the Minors, Mexican and Venezuelan Leagues. The photo you have was used on Rene's 1947 Almanaque Deportivo baseball card.
