I haven't airbrushed in years so no particular brand recommendation but I used to prefer it for finer airbrush work because it was thinner to cut and easier to work with compared to thicker products made for general or larger-scale stenciling.
Liquid frisket is another option - you brush it on to create the detail of the shape you want to stencil and let it dry. Then paint and remove it. Peels right up.
