"hey, bring a binder of your best stuff and let's hang out" - then talking about and drooling over each others cards.
Howard said it all—it was a rare opportunity to look at the amazing “stuff” everyone brought! This was my second year, and it exceeded last year’s. The day was a feast of eye-candy and trying to digest it all was a visual challenge during the few hours we had. That’s why Sammy’s video is an important document—thank you, Sammy, and good to meet you. The conversations were worth the price of admission (free), and will continue for months/years (hello Jamie S).

A few of the highlights for me included having the world’s PCL authority, Mark Macrae, in the room to share his passion and knowledge. Joe T’s latest Mantle piece was breathtaking (I was too shy to ask him for his autograph), as was Dan McKee’s Wajo binder. There were only a few of us with Negro League material but the items Jim C. and Jamie S. shared were incredibly special. Scott M’s Crofts collection may be among the finest in captivity. Etc., etc., etc., etc. Oh, and best prize for display goes to Steve H! Even Leon was there to monitor the goings-on.

Thanks to Goldin Auctions for the hospitality.

But the real genius behind the day belongs to our welcoming hosts, Ryan and Andrew who may be launching new careers as promoters--they do it well! The friendliness and willingness to share they encouraged is a breath of fresh air in a hobby that often lacks the pure joy of sharing our passions with like-minded individuals.

I look forward to next year’s event and hanging out!

Cheers,
Mike
