For relatively low-end cards, mid-to-large-sized shows are a decent venue.

There are still good deals to be had with some auction houses; Collector Connection comes to mind.

Regarding eBay, have you tried auctions? This would take some patience and self-discipline; however, not every listing becomes a record-setting auction.

Something to remember: today's "inflated" price is tomorrow's bargain. I used to get T206 commons in PSA/SGC 3 for $35-$40. I wish that ship hadn't sailed. I also wish I had bought more at that price.
