I do think Eric would make a fine and dandy replacement if the situation arises, as enthusiasm is a key ingredient (as is a keen awareness of numerical order). Eric assuredly has both, and a bonus for him would be the ability, if desired, to somehow end up with the first Monster Number over 1000, a feat I'm surprised Frank didn't accomplish while the thread was under his control.
