Thanks for mentioning Bill Melton. I loved Bill Melton. My cherished memory of Bill is in the summer of 1971. My family and I had had a rough year. So it's late at night, the Sox game is on, and I have to be quiet 'cause we moved into this apartment complex. The White Sox had been battling the Yankees tooth and nail all game, and the Yanks had a two-run lead. Bottom of the ninth, the Sox get 2 on base, and up comes Bill Melton. Melton blasts a 3-run, walk off the field home run, and it's as if, things are going to be ok again. I am jumping up and down, screaming SILENTLY! Made me a Bill Melton fan for life. Man, that was some moment.
I think I'd put Bill Melton into the hall of very good. By the looks of the NET, a lot of other people must have loved Bill. It's never a good time to say goodbye to a hero that meant something to you. --- Brian Powell
