Up for sale is an incredible cabinet photo of HOF pitcher, Waite Hoyt. He is pictured here with his battery-mate, Charlie Hesterberg, from their local sandlot team. While Hoyt would go on to become a HOF pitcher and live a long and prosperous life, sadly, his teammate in this photo, Charlie Hesterberg, would die from appendicitis at the young age of 17. This cabinet photo originates from the Hesterberg family.
Hoyt was a star pitcher of the Yankees during their dynasty of the 1920s, but before that he had been signed by John McGraw with the New York Giants in 1915 at the incredibly young age of 15, due to his prodigous ability in high school. But this cabinet photo pre-dates even his high school playing days, showing Hoyt in his sandlot uniform at the ridiculously young age of 13-14 years old!!!
The cabinet is ~12"x14", and despite some chipping to the mount, the image on the photo is quite strong.
