One of the profound intersections between pre-war players and the military occurred in World War I. I am honored to have this Christy Mathewson autographed Christmas card from 1918, which notes "Junior Officers Mess, 28th Div, Christmas-Greeting, Dec. 25th 1918" on the front. It is signed on the opposite side by 10 service members with Matty's signature appearing across the top. Matty obviously felt a close enough bond to his fellow service members stationed in France that he included them in sending holiday greetings back home.
