1917-18 Boxing Belt / Isthmus of Panama / Very Ornate / Thoughts?
Every once in awhile you run across something that's neat as hell, but you don't really know what to think of it, or how to advise on it.
I was contacted through my Website on this boxing piece by a collector. Very attractive and ornate. Probably didn't belong to anybody well known, but still pretty awesome.
Have no idea whether it's for sale. The owner just contacted me and asked if I might know anything about it, or it's history. He found it at an Estate Sale. Seemed like a Collector/Hoarder situation, so may not have anything to do with the actual Estate Sale location of the belt.
Made by Deiges & Clust
Presented by The British American Tobacco Co.
I told him I assumed it’s likely to do with military that was stationed in the Panama Canal area during that time. Some type of amateur Boxing Tournament.
He gave me permission to post it here, to see if any other collectors might have thoughts on the piece.
