They're not common; expect prices to reflect that. But the first thing will be actually locating one. If it's a gift, let's just say it had better be a reeeeeaaaaalllly good friend! Another thing to consider is that MacPhail was extremely prone to personalize on baseballs. So, unless your friend is also named "The Covington, KY Rotary Club", that might be something that gets in the way.
You may wish to try to convince your buddy to opt for something less lofty, as MacPhail autographs are certainly out there on much cheaper mediums. More like a weekly grocery budget for a healthy family of 3-4.
