I'm a bit of a Hub Perdue fan... He started 1914 with Boston; and was traded to the Cardinals at the end of June that year. The Giants were in first place in the NL then, the Braves were in last place. By the end of the season, the Braves had won the World Series, and Hub was annoyed that he had missed out on that; and had missed out on a share of the World Series money.
I met Hub's grandson, who told me tales about Hub; the ballplayer was a character. Hub was the County Clerk of Sumner County Tennessee in his later years. Sumner County is adjacent to my county of residence in Kentucky.
