They don't send you payment, you get paid from PayPal or Stripe. And you incur those transaction fees in addition to the 2 or 3% selling fees. That $3.49 that you wrote above is not a dollar amount, it's actually 3.49
percent...the PayPal/Stripe fee.
The $.49 processing fee is for each sale, I believe.
