I systematically walk the aisles, taking notes. I know where the market is for a couple of my top targets so I can jump on them if I encounter one in my "bargaining zone." After that first pass, I drop back by places and try to get things to shake out so that I get the most for my budget.
And when I say "my budget," I really mean 110-125% of what I had in mind when I walked in.
