There are just a couple of Laughlin enthusiasts here on net54, and I'm one of them, so I'll chime in.

Because of how the set is one of 'looking back' and not a contemporary issue, makes it somewhat problematic for your average collector. The fact they're also a bit oversized and hand-printed (and hand-cut) in black and white, sort of adds to that general disregard (for lack of a better word). The only two HOF'ers who were still active when the set was released are Mickey Mantle and Bob Gibson (Whitey Ford hung up his cleats in May, 1967, so his card was almost certainly put out after that date). So overall, it has the makings of an All Time Greats sorta set (think of the 1973 and 1976 Topps subsets).

Don't get me wrong, as I freakin' love them!!!! But the full sets I bought were for a couple of hundred dollars, and graded cards have usually been pretty cheap (of the more common players/World Series), but once eBayers list them at crazy prices (that don't sell) you have all the other sellers hopping on the bandwagon and jacking theirs up to equally stupid prices. (This usually dovetails into sellers putting dumb prices on the reprint/later print versions without the address on back.) It's the wild west out there!!!

Sorry for droning on, but just yesterday someone on eBay listed a full set (not seeming to be in overly great shape) for a whopping $4,987!!!!! I've never seen a listing for even close to that amount. Yowza!!!

Take it for what it's worth, but if you're intent on selling, maybe put it up as a regular auction and see how high it goes, or perhaps split it into 3 or 4 separate lots?? Something along those lines...but who the heck knows??? You could also list it for sale here in the B/S/T and see what interest you get.

Good luck!!!

Edited to add: And look at that!!! Apparently, the set I mentioned just sold on eBay. Was that one yours by any chance?

Spelling "Yastrzemski" correctly without needing to look it up since the 1980s.
