FS: Incredible 1901 Brown Brothers photo taken at the Polo Grounds prior to a game with the Chicago Orphans facing the New York Giants. Orphans players are seen in the foreground during pre-game warmup and there is a tripod at home plate announcing: Next Game / New York vs. Chicago. This is the first and only time I have ever seen the tripod on the field.
See zoomed crop below for Orphans players. Of the three players leaning on bats and facing the camera, Jack Taylor is at far right, Cupid Childs (I believe) is in the middle, and the player at left is unknown. New York Giants players are seen warming up in the background.
The 1901 date is based on ballpark features, player uniforms, and the Orphans/Cubs players that can be seen. If the Cupid Childs ID is wrong (which I don't think it is) this could also be 1902.
This is in easily one of the earliest and best in-game Type 1 photos to exist of the Polo Grounds. Just an unbelievably great image. PSA authenticated and encapsulated.
Photo size: 5-1/2" x 7-5/8"
Condition is very good with some creasing to the upper left corner. Various Brown Brothers stamps on reverse along with pencil annotations.
