Which is irrelevant to this, or any, discussion not pertaining specifically to the English language itself.
He took down his item based on a polite note from somebody unknown to him, evidently because he wanted his description to be honest and truthful.
Let's give the guy some credit, even though he might possibly have English listed as not his first language, similar to the ancestors of the vast majority of people who live in this country. For me that's as close as my grandmother who learned English on her arrival, and worded sentences similarly to the gentleman in question.
