1968 American Oil Winners Circle - [Base] #_GUDE - Guy Delparte

Spotted this card on COMC a few days ago and grabbed it when it was listed. However, he's not in this set and based on the text, it must have been made in 1976 based on his wikipedia entry.

So is this some fairly well-made fantasy piece? Did American Oil continue adding to their set over time, and picked some career minor league hockey journeyman when he finally got called up to the NHL? Would they really have awarded a $6.50 prize?
Based on the cards in the set I've seen and handled, the print, colors, perforations, back, etc all look right. So what is going on here? What's the profit incentive for making this card, if it is fantasy/counterfeit?
