I would recommend not using psa as your main judgement for how you approach photos. They're ok at the best of times and horrendous at the worst.
I trust Rhys 100x over psa. He should make an identification guide, it would be really insightful and helpful to say the least.
If you want to learn, use resources David Rudd Cycleback has created. He actually knows what he's talking about.

For newbies into photos, besides Jim's book, RMY goes into quite a bit of detail in the "Rules/FAQ" section of their website explaining how they determine condition, but also Vintage 1, 2, etc. And agreed on trusting Rhys over PSA.
