So while the registry is a factor for a lot of high graded pieces, I’m not sure the same holds true for pieces in SGC holders, unless the buyer has some expectation that they can successfully cross it.

No, Sgc screwed the pooch on keeping their registry going and while a crossover would be risky I'm thinking the right submitter could get it crossed.
