I think Jeff draws a good correlation about total graded playing days card POPs between Jackson and Ruth, which may result in a lower price for the Ruth in this series. I haven't run the Ruth playing days total graded POP #s yet like I did for Jackson (and Wagner) but suspect with Ruth's 4 Goudey cards from 1933, all the W series strip/hand cut cards, etc. Ruth has at least 3x more playing days graded cards than Jackson.
Interestingly though, this 1919-21 Ruth is a VERY EARLY playing days card, with only a handful of other issues and cards before Ruth's appearance in this one. Whereas, Jackson's appearance in this 1919-21 issue is at the END of his career and there are 1,320+ graded Jackson cards preceding this W514 issue. Moreover, there are 67 PSA graded copies of the Ruth, and 74 of Jackson. Yet, Jackson's sells for more. Probably the link between the 1919 Black Sox scandal and the same year issue of this card with Jackson in a Sox uniform. I wonder if Ruth's card associated him with the Red Sox (he's in fact in those colors in the card) would it be worth more since so few Sox uniform cards of Ruth were produced?
Thinking about this in Comic book terms, this is a much earlier appearance of Ruth than Jackson during their respective careers, so one would think the Ruth would be more valuable and desirable since there a many factors fewer cards of his preceding this one.
Alas, to each their own collecting interests and value, what make our hobby so fascinating!
