It meets all of the criteria that you outlined, plus it's got so many small, included subsets that the ways to set build appear really numerous and fun! My particular favorite is the Vintage '63 subset, but there are tons more.
This thread is of interest to me. I have been thinking about getting back to 80s and 90s collecting. I stopped paying attention to cards for a fairly decent amount of time beginning around 1992 so I missed this set. It looks great! I was 25 then and in graduate school with some interest in vintage, but I was checked out of modern stuff at that point. This set has a lot of variety, and looks like a fun, affordable project.
