Chris Benjamin would put a fake entry in some checklists in his Sport-Americana Non-Sports Guides to catch plagiarists. Card Prices Update got caught nicking Beckett's lists in the 1980's and got caught due to, I believe (it was a long time ago), the same typos being used. Bert Sugar made up his own ACC numbers sometimes in the Sports Collectors Bible. Even the ACC changed numbers from one edition to the next sometimes. And that's just the
overt stuff I can recall. Mistakes happen, especially as making up lists can be a repetitive, rote and boring task but intentional errors really grind my gears.
