Default Brigadear General Abner Doubleday, engraved portrait c.1862-1863

Am selling a very cool and quite scare piece of baseball folklore that I’ve had for almost 30 years hanging in my Card Cave….

Brigadear General Abner Doubleday (yes, THAT Abner Doubleday) was included as one of a collection of Civil War Generals and other dignitaries as a set produced in circa 1862-1863

The photo was taken by the famous Civil War photographer, Matthew Brady, then engraved by J.C. Buttre and presumably sold by him. This image depicts Doubleday as a Brigadier General (1 star). He was a 1 star in 1862 and became a 2 star during 1863. This portrait is most likely from that 1862-1863 period.

I purchased this engraving in an antique shop in Northern California in the early 1990’s and had it framed and displayed ever since.

For comp, I was able to find a full set of 50 available for sale by the William Reese Company for $6000 - https://www.williamreesecompany.com/...ores-and-other

In spite of the famous Doubleday name and being 160 years old, this framed engraving is quite affordable (when you can find it)

Asking $400 delivered, or best offer.

Thanks all and Happy 2023 Collecting!

Jeff
