SOLD: Wrigley Stadium Brick - CUBS
Original Wrigley Stadium Brick - ****SOLD****
I purchased an extra brick in my quest for a nice example from the original 1914 construction of Weeghman Park for the Chicago Whales (I collect Federal League material). But probably most of you are going to be interested in this brick as an example of an original brick from the Cubs Wrigley Stadium, as it is better known.
From the MLB hologram identification, I can tell that this was from the late 2005 demolition of the original outer brick wall and old bleachers in the outfield. (see further pics). The Cubs sold many of these as souvenirs. I'll include the cardboard shipping box it came in. If you want more info on the type of brick (I do way too much research on these things), this was a Barr paving brick made by the Barr Clay Company in Illinois, which provided bricks to the city during this period, and later went out of business in the '20s. With cement residue on the front and back, it indicates this brick was used as part of the wall (Weeghman had the park built in just a matter of months, ignoring city code and planning documents, so it's no surprise that this brick was included).
