1917-19 Hillerich & Bradsby Jake Daubert Game Used Bat
Hillerich & Bradsby pre-model block letter last name only bat was used by Jake Daubert with either the Brooklyn Robins or the Cincinnati Reds between 1917 and 1919. The bat shows excellent use with a minor handle crack. It is 34 1/2", 35.9 oz.
SOLD. Thanks to the buyer!
Several ball marks and light surface marks are visible on the right barrel surface. A few cleat marks are also present. The right barrel had been planed for side writing, but is no longer visible. Unfortunately the planing of the barrel may have obscured/removed some of the use on the right barrel. This is especially unfortunate as Daubert was a left handed batter and this was the normal contact area. The handle has a slight crack a few inches up from the knob. The lower part of the handle and the knob have been taped for grip and the original handle tape is present. No knob markings are visible due to the presence of the tape application and nothing is written on the barrel end. Uniform numbers were not routinely marked on the knobs of bats until much later than the era of issuance and use of this bat.
***Jake Daubert was not the only Daubert that played organized baseball. The other Daubert was Harry Daubert, who played 1 game for Pittsburgh in 1915 and then spent time in the lower minors, except for 6 games with Salt Lake of the PCL in 1918.
An additional three Dauberts were in the minors, but none during the era of this bat.
