1981 Topps Ellis Valentine - what is going on with his batting helmet?
I am not an expert in baseball batting helmet history, but it's been a long time since I came across a card where I didn't even know what was going on. Is this some kind of experimental mouth guard? I don't recall ever seeing this before. Just looks like something for which there must be an interesting piece of history of anecdote behind.
