May 13, 1912 Ernie Shore handwritten and signed 3-page letter and envelope to his parents. He talks about his exams and need for money like any other college kid, but most importantly he talks about a job opportunity in New York requiring him to be there by June 1st.
This was of course his tryout with John McGraw and the NY Giants where he would pitch mostly batting practice until getting his big opportunity vs his future team the Red Sox on June 20th when he made his mlb debut. He pitched one inning in the 9th and surrendered 10 runs.
From Shore's estate.
