All valid points. It is difficult both to buy and sell collectible and sought after bottles of spirits in light of current state-based laws. Finder fee a fine idea except would only be useful with purchasing from licensed establishments. Otherwise, back to issue regarding lack of proper licensing on the seller. And that does not get around those states with laws limiting/prohibiting shipping across state lines. Fine point regarding Reddit and other public online marketplaces. Facebook has really cracked down on private groups with members that make post regarding the private buying/selling/distribution of spirits. I know as one FB whiskey group I am a member of is educating membership on what not to say. Several such FB groups have already been shut down by FB police.
Fine and collectible spirits have gotten a lot of exposure in past several years, with ungodly amounts of money exchanged. But the legal landscape makes it extremely challenging. Too much so for me personally. But maybe some day a change in laws will make this area of collecting and commerce worth a second look. Especially for those who bunkered quantities of decent spirits years ago and now fine those bottles highly sought after by the general public and flippers alike.
