Default RIP Chuck Gaylord, Spokane Shop Owner

Saw this in the paper today that Chuck Gaylord passed away a week ago. He was a year older than my father. When I moved from Montana at 10yo, his LCS was close enough to my house that I could ride my bike there (on occasion). He had so many vintage cards! It was my first experience seeing cards I had only seen in books. It was fantastic. Even though I collected modern as a boy, it was always a desire to move into vintage. He'd let me come into his shop and organize cards. He gave me the price gun, told me to find cards more than $3, and let me search through singles. At the end of the day he'd pay me in Cincinnati Reds cards. He was friends with the other card shop owner on the other side of town who brought in retired players: Harmon Killebrew, Don Larsen (lived nearby), Gaylord Perry and others. It was a great time to collect in Spokane. Chuck even brought in Lou Brock and Steve Garvey, but then it got too expensive to bring players in and auto signings dried up. He was a great guy and his influence on collecting in this town is missed.
