I'm all about melt weight for gold/silver. The approximate gold content/value for the $5 gold piece is about $400 (melt weight) assuming $1800/ounce for gold. At $674 for the coin, it's not too bad. The $5 coin would be at melt weight value if gold ever reached about $3000/ounce.
Aesthetically, that Rube Foster is fantastic.

I only own one modern commemorative and collect vintage coins otherwise, but the US Mint consistently puts out great looking coins IMO.
