A few days later I called my mom & dad, apologized for not seeing them when we made our brief tour stop. Neither of them mentioned the hoop and backboard.
I said to my dad "sorry about the backboard"
He said "huh, what are you talking about?"
I said "go look at it".
When he got back on the phone (cord phone, old school in those days) he said "Oh wow, I thought the house looked different!"
