Default FS: 1906 Chief Meyers Dartmouth Type 1 Photo

FS: Incredible, rare 1906 Type 1 photo of John Tortes "Chief" Meyers with the Dartmouth baseball team. Meyers attended Dartmouth as a student for a brief period and trained with the baseball team in the spring of 1906, but never played a game for them. A couple of years later Meyers would be with the New York Giants and was extremely proud of his connection to Dartmouth throughout the remainder of his life. This is the only photo of him with the team (or during his time at Dartmouth at all) that I am aware of. A true Meyers rarity.

In addition to Meyers, hall of famer Tommy McCarthy is also present in the photo (middle row, dark cap) in his role as Dartmouth coach, 1906-1907.

The story of Meyers' discovery by Dartmouth baseball and football star Ralph Glaze can be found here, about halfway down the page:

Condition of photo is very good. Great contrast and clarity. Pencil mark (plus some erased) on the front. The reverse has two spots of scrapbook residue and a tiny piece of tape at the lower left corner.

Size is 3-1/4" x 5-3/4"

Price:

PM with interest.

Thx,
Ray
