The Ty Cobb Museum was founded in 1998, sponsored by and operated as part of the Ty Cobb Healthcare System until 2015, when the Ty Cobb Hospital was sold to the Athens Regional Hospital System. Since 2015 it has operated as part of the Community Services Group of Royston, Georgia, which continues the operation of several of the philanthropic businesses which grew out of Ty Cobb's original founding of the Ty Cobb Memorial Hospital in 1951.
The Museum does have Ty Cobb T-206, but it was donated to the Museum already framed and thus we are unsure if it has a Ty Cobb back. (However, there is a T-206 Cobb with Cobb back in the collection of the nearby University of Georgia, although they do not display it except in special exhibits.)
The Museum does have many priceless relics, such as Cobb's 1907 Batting title medal, his Lifetime Pass to the Major League Games, a game used jersey and bronzed baseball cleats, plus many other personal items donated by the Cobb family.
The Covid virus resulted in the Museum being closed for about a year, although it is now open again for group visits with prior reservations. While the Museum has issued a Ty Cobb baseball card every year since 1998, the 2020 card was accompanied by the Authentic Autograph card in hopes of raising funds to make up for revenue lost during the Covid shutdown. The drawing for this card is planned for later this summer, hopefully after most al the regular 2020 cards have been sold. The regular 2020 Ty Cobb card is available for sale at the Museum shop, and at the website.
