Wins are a poor measure of a pitcher's success.
I don't see Sutton as being borderline. He never put together that gigantic Cy Young season but he had a lot of really good ones.
Sutton was also part of probably the best starting rotation of the last 50+ years - the 1981 Houston Astros. The five starters - Joe Niekro, Don Sutton, Nolan Ryan, Bob Knepper, and Vern Ruhle - combined for a
2.42 ERA. Amazing.
