Thank you for coming on the board, I agree – most of the time size specs are the reason these older cards do not pass. If they had been a recent trim, they most likely would not have been graded at all. In many cases these older cards, especially N cards or T cards had been cut to size to fit in scrap books or holders that we do not see today. Also, factory cuts had been so different back then, that sizes can sometimes be all over – unfortunately with grading today if a card is short then “A” is common. Sometimes even over-sized cards can get an authentic, not often – if the grader feels that the card was cut differently in any way the card does not get a numerical grade or many cases not graded at all.

This happens a lot with non-sports cards like the “Smokers” set – it’s the luck of the draw sometimes!
