I think one of the greatest draws of signed magazines, Sports Illustrated in particular, is that they were only produced for a short time. In SIs case, only a week. For Sport magazines, a month. So unlike a baseball or an 8x10 photo which can continually be produced, these are limited and usually showcasing a photo of a particular slice in time.
