Default FS: 1916 Boston Red Sox Cabinet SOLD

1916 Boston Red Sox Cabinet Photo

Very rare piece produced just prior to 1916 World Series by Sprague & Hathaway out of West Somerville, Mass. as an advertisement for Stag Sweaters. Babe Ruth front row center in team photo taken at Fenway.

Mile High just sold the slightly more rare green version for $22.8k and it was trimmed down along all four edges as it should measure larger and have the line border (green ones do not have the Sprague Hathaway credit at the bottom nor Stag Sweater overprint, and from my experience have a lesser photo clarity/tone than the red, possibly suggesting they were produced after the red ones).

Photo and mount obviously do have some condition issues but 100% untrimmed (measures 9" x 11") and unrestored (unlike others that have sold at auction). Mount corner wear, pinholes, tape marks on mount and bottom of photo, crease on photo, etc... the scan below shows everything perfectly. Mount also did have some pencil marks that were very easily and gently erased. Photo is also slightly detached at the very bottom but still firmly adhered to the mount, I think they may have been issued this way, similar to T5's but more attached.

Back is relatively problem free with just a small spot of paper loss and tape marks at the very top.

Beautiful, rare and historic early Ruth piece that would look amazing framed, professionally restored, or just displayed as is. (Or apparently just trim off the borders ) Photo itself is crystal clear.

PM me with questions or for back scans, serious inquires only please, thanks!

Sold

ps - will also include a 1915 postal used envelope from West Sommerville with beautiful Sprague & Hathaway letterhead/advertising as an ancillary piece
