I think Jay Miller makes a great suggestion.

You could also collect items having to do with the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). Some good stories there, and some very affordable items available, if that matters. But, you could also find some more "investment grade" items tied to Jimmie Foxx, Max Carey, and the Wrigley family.
