I don't know too much about classic rock as I mainly concentrate on punk/brit-pop, etc. However, just like cards it really doesn't have much to do with sound or even appearance. As "rookie" cards are the most appealing, the first pressing of a record is always most desirable (regardless of sound). That Cream LP that is Mono sound is "first pressing" while the subsequent re-releases are not.
