It does "look" like a possible trim, but I suppose it could also be the edge of the original sheet. I've seen several T205 Mathewsons over the years, that also seem to have this same issue.
That border doesn't bother me nearly as much as the "sandpaper" effect going on on Cy's face. Cy might want to try the Phantom of the Opera's mask
